UX RESEARCH: A PRACTICAL INTRODUCTION

UX Research: What are we talking about?

Listening to customers, exploring uses, deciphering behaviors, eye-tracking, in situ observation, immersion...

Whatever its name and form, the overall objective of User eXperience Research or UX Research is identical:

It is a question of understanding the uses and motivations of Users, of exploring their imaginations in order to rethink existing models, transform, and innovate to enchant experiences and make it a major competitive axis.

In theory, nothing very complicated. But in practice?

Like other disciplines, the design and implementation of UXR projects requires expertise, commitment and agility.

UXR: First Step of Design Thinking

Exploration of uses, discovery of behaviors, immersion,... whatever its shape, UX Research is the first essential step in a Design Thinking process. As a reminder, Design Thinking is an approach that has the particularity of embracing complex issues with diverse and often contradictory factors.

To this end, UX Research has the mission of questioning the User's needs from different combined angles to - depending on the case - identify an irritant, capture a problem, decipher an expectation, explore an idea... So what type collection of insights to favor in UX Research?

  • EXPLOIT EXISTING INSIGHTS: this is the role of the secondary collection

    • Social listening, blogs, websites, webinars, conferences, forums, activity reports...

    • Unfortunate to disregard this resource - it often turns out to be very useful!

  • MEET THE USER: the added value of the primary collection or User Research in UX. Some methods: online or offline interviews, in - situ observations, focus groups, workshops, user tests... depending on the problem and the target
