USER EXPERIENCE: OBSERVATION AND UNDERSTANDING TO BETTER DESIGN IT

The word design’s etymology comes from the Latin term designare, “to draw, to conceive”, itself formed from the noun signum, “sign, mark”. Design is therefore a combination of the plan and the form.

Innovation through design seeks the best response to new uses.

In France, the UX profession is very focused. It often boils down to two attributes: information architecture or tree structure and interaction design or ergonomics. However, to offer the best experience, it is necessary to understand the user’s needs and uses.

The UX methodology is structured in 4 phases:

I. Observation is done through user interviews. Depending on the prism sought: an individual point of view or new ideas, the techniques activated will be different: individual interviews or focus groups / group interviews.

II. The design is based on design thinking: an approach to innovation that relies on co-creation from end users. It is during this phase that the concepts of personas, user journey, brand persona, brainstorming, card sorting, etc. will be discussed.

III. The formalization allows to discover the notions of pitch, usage scenario, tree structure, wireframe, look and feel... All from the user’s point of view of course.

IV. User testing is the most effective and objective way to evaluate the ergonomics of a site or an application, or to give your opinion on a new concept or product. It makes it possible to observe and listen to the user and therefore to identify correctly the difficulties he encounters in his browsing experience or use.

User experience design is one of the methods used in the Delta Business DB Lab.
